[Standard pathology report for gastric cancer]

In 2005, the gastrointestinal pathology study group of the Korean Society of Pathologists proposed a standardized pathology report format for gastric cancer. In Korea, most endoscopically resected gastric cancers are evaluated and reported following this guideline.

This is the example pathology report of ESD specimen by the 2005 pathology guideline. In the standard format, the resection margin involvement is reported in 4 directions. In cases with submucosal involvement, the depth of invasion is measured and reported. The criteria of pathological incomplete resection can be slightly different in various endoscopy centers. In our institution, cases with positive resection margin, undifferentiated histology, depth of invasion more than 500 micrometer, lymphovascular invasion are considered as incomplete resection.
