1. Chronic inflammation in the pathogenesis of GERD and chronic gastritis (Hong, China)

The inflammatory mediators of GERD includes IL-1beta, IL-6, IL-8, and PAF. Both activated immune cells and nonimmune cells, such as epithelial cells and endothelial cells, are the potential cellular sources of the cytokines. Chronic inflammation can also cause he complications of GERD, such as motility abnormalities, fibrosis, and carcinogenesis.
