[Opening]

Dear colleagues and distinguished professors and my friends, it is a great honor and pleasure to be here at this KINGCA WEEK today.
I sincerely welcome all of you from 35 countries around the world in this wonderful season of September. Actually, the summer this year in Korea was terribly long and hot and humid until last week, and the weather suddenly become very beautiful. I hope you have a big discussion, make new friends and have a memorable time in this symposium.
Among many academic and scientific activities of the Korean Gastric Cancer Association, KGCA, the KINGCA WEEK has become an essential platform for sharing the latest insights in all aspects of gastric cancer research and clinical practice. In this eleventh KINGCA symposium, we received 425 abstracts from 24 countries. I’d like to thank all the researchers for the great work in the field of gastric cancer.
We, the members of the KGCA, are trying to make our society a multidisciplinary team. In this symposiums, not only surgeons, but also physicians, endoscopists, pathologists, radiologist, epidemiologists, basic researchers, students, nurses, and all the related people came together. I hope this symposium will be a great chance to enhance your understanding of the various aspects of gastric cancer research and clinical practice.
Members of the organizing committee, especially scientific committee members, prepared a lot of symposiums on interesting topics, educational sessions, consensus meetings, multidisciplinary team session, and joint symposiums with our friend societies not only in Korea but also Japan, and China. I really appreciate your great contributions to this symposium. Without sponsors, this symposium was impossible. Thank you very much for the support.
Finally, once again, I hope you enjoy the KINGCA symposium.

Ladies and gentlemen. Distinguished speakers, session chairs, and advisory committee members, and my friends;
It is a great pleasure to meet you here again at Samcheonggak, a traditional Korean restaurant. We are lucky to have a beautiful weather today.
I think this KINGCA symposium is already a success, and became another history. As you know, this is the eleventh KINGCA symposium. In 2014, the first KINGCA symposium was held in 대전 convention center from May 15 to May 17. At that time, it was kind of a great challenge and I really thank all the pioneers, senior professors for their imagination and courage.
Speakers and chairs are the core value of the KINGCA symposium. Without you, it’s just impossible. I sincerely thank you again for the long-standing support to the KGCA and friendship with our members. In this evening, I hope you enjoy the taste of the Korean traditional food and some nice wine and soju, but not too much.

[총회 인사말]

존경하는 대한위암학회 회원 여러분, 자문위원 여러분. 안녕하십니까.
주지하시는 바와 같이 어느날 갑자기 우리 의료계의 환경이 매우 악화되었고, 교육, 진료 및 연구 - 모든 분야의 어려움이 지속되고 있습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 우리 대한위암학회는 지난 1년 동안 학회의 본래의 목적인 학술활동, 연구활동, 교육활동 대부분을 성공적으로 진행하였다고 생각합니다. 이 모든 것을 위하여 불철주야 각별히 애써주신 류근원 이사장님을 비롯한 상임이사진, 그리고 회원 여러분 모두에게 감사와 존경의 인사를 드립니다.
우리 학회는 1993년 설립된 대한위암연구회에 뿌리를 두고 있으며, 1996년부터 대한위암학회라는 이름으로 40년 가량 꾸준하고도 다양한 활동을 진행하고 있습니다. 최근에는 다학제 학회로의 변신과 국제화 수준을 높이기 위하여 노력을 집중하고 있습니다. 이번 KINGCA Week도 과거의 행사에서 더욱 발전된 모습, 다학제적인 특징과 국제학회로서의 위상을 유감없이 보여주고 있다고 자부합니다.
지난 1년간의 학회 회무를 보고하고, 차기년도 예산을 승인하며, 새로운 임원을 선출하는 등 총회의 의제를 진행하겠습니다만, 저는 오늘의 총회가 학회의 발전과 회원 여러분의 권익을 증진시킬 수 있는 건설적인 논의의 장이 되기를 바랍니다.

[총회 폐회사]

지금까지 준비된 안건이 모두 논의된 것 같습니다. 향후 1년간 신임 류민희 회장님, 장대영, 김찬규 부회장님 그리고 류근원 이사장님과 상임 이사 여러분께서 회원들과 함께 우리 학회를 더욱 발전시켜주실 것으로 믿어 의심치 않습니다.
외과 의사가 아닌 내과의사, 내시경 전문가인 저에게 과분한 자리에서 일할 기회를 주신 회원 여러분께 다시 한번 감사의 말씀을 드리고 싶습니다. 회장으로서 지난 1년간 참으로 많은 것을 배웠고 좋은 분들과 함께할 수 있어 즐거웠습니다. 우리나라 위암 연구와 진료가 더욱 발전할 수 있도록 회원으로서 꾸준히 기여할 것을 약속드립니다. 아낌없이 드리겠습니다.

Ladies and gentlemen. Distinguished speakers, all the guest, and my friends;
It is a great pleasure to have a gala dinner with you today. It’s just the second day, but I think this KINGCA symposium is already a success with your support. Symposium speakers, oral and poster presenters, and all the participants, you did a great job and thank you very much.
I hope you enjoy the dinner and the show and make some friends all over the world. And see you again in the next KINGCA symposium at this hotel.

1. 회장 강연 - Endoscopy and gastric cancer - widening the horizon

Although decreasing, gastric cancer is still one of the most common cause of cancer-related morbidity and mortality in Korea. For the last three decades, there has been a great advancement in the diagnosis and treatment of gastric cancer. I learned the basic skills of endoscopy in 1994, and almost every thing has changed for the past 30 years. Today, I will focus on the endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of gastric cancer with emphasis on my personal experience.
